Which bed base should you choose? BOX or MULTIBOX?
While browsing our store's range, many customers wonder which slatted bed base will be perfect for them.
Is it better to choose BOX with 48 slats? Or is it better to choose MULTIBOX with 50 slats?
In this article, we will point out the significant differences. The key aspect here is not the number of slats, but the lifting system!
1. Number of slats
The first visible difference that stands out is the increased number of slats. In the case of double slatted frames from the BOX series (dimensions from 120x200 to 200x200), the number of birch slats is 48, and the distance between them is approximately 25–30 mm. The MULTIBOX system has 2 more slats, i.e., 50 pieces, and the distance between them is approximately 20–25 mm.
As you can see, the difference is not significant, so choosing both the most popular BOX system and the MULTIBOX system is correct.
2. Lifting mechanism
The most crucial difference for these slatted frames is the lifting system. Both systems work perfectly for both wooden boxes (made of furniture boards) and upholstered boxes.
Let's take a look at the mechanisms to see the significant differences:
ST lift from the BOX system:
MULTIBOX lift:
What are the differences between the mechanisms?
The MULTIBOX mechanism features offsets that move the slatted frame away from the bed frame, which is ideal for upholstered beds. This prevents the frame and mechanism from rubbing against the fabric. Therefore, when using the MULTIBOX system, it is necessary to design a larger internal storage box to accommodate the entire mechanism along with the slatted frame.
In the case of the ST mechanism from the BOX system, spacers or washers can also be used between the mechanism and the bed frame, which helps avoid friction against protruding elements, such as rivets.
The most commonly used mechanism
The ST mechanism is most often chosen by our customers due to its versatility and ease of fitting into various bed designs. The MULTIBOX mechanism, due to its specificity, is more commonly used in upholstered beds.
Are both mechanisms equally good?
Both solutions, ST and MULTIBOX, are of the same quality. They differ only in the design of the mechanism and the number of slats in the frame. Both meet the standards necessary for compatibility with modern mattresses and ensure full functionality.
So, which slatted bed base will ultimately be better?
The choice depends on your individual needs and how the bed is constructed. The most popular and most frequently used by our customers is the BOX system with the ST mechanism. To facilitate its application, we have prepared a short guide: How to design a storage box.
