Bed frame insert 80x160 for a children's bed — metal, without legs

The 80x160 size is a classic of the children's room — big enough for a child of nursery and early school age, and at the same time easy on space. This frame is the metal insert alone, intended to be fitted inside an existing bedstead. It has no legs and no lifting mechanism — you use it to replace the frame that came with the bed, or to complete a bedstead bought separately.

The most common reason for replacement is simple: the wooden frame from the set cracked or started squeaking after a year, while the bedstead itself is fine. Buying a whole new bed then makes no sense.

Why metal instead of wood

  • closed 40x30 mm profile with a 1.5 mm wall — no sagging and no squeaking after years of use
  • steel does not dry out and does not move as the humidity in the room changes
  • bolted corners on steel connectors — the joint can be retightened at any time
  • 19 sprung birch plywood slats, 53 x 8 mm, spaced approx. 2.5 cm apart — even mattress support and free airflow underneath
  • powder coating in textured black — resistant to scratches

Before you order — check the bedstead

The insert measures 790 x 1605 mm, so the bedstead must have at least that much room inside. Measure the distance between the inner walls of the bedstead, not the outer outline of the bed — this is the most common source of mistakes when ordering.

What the frame will rest on. The insert has no legs of its own, so the bedstead must have battens, angle brackets or ledges on the sides for the frame to rest on. If the bedstead does not have them, they have to be screwed on — otherwise the frame has nothing to lie on. We recommend support along the full length of the sides and, in the wider sizes, in the middle as well.

Frequently asked questions

Does this frame have legs?

No. It is the insert alone, for an existing bedstead. If you are looking for a construction that stands on the floor on its own, without a bed, choose the self-supporting version — it comes with corner legs.

Will the insert fit a bed bought in another shop?

It fits any bedstead that measures at least 790 x 1605 mm inside and has support at the sides. The manufacturer of the bed makes no difference here — what counts is the internal dimension and what the frame will rest on. Before ordering, it is worth measuring the bedstead from the inside.

What age of child is the 80x160 size suitable for?

A bed 160 cm long usually serves from the age of 3 to 10. After that, it is worth moving on to the 90x200 or 100x200 size, which we make in the same construction.

Will the frame stand up to jumping on the bed?

Children jump on beds and no instruction manual will change that — so it is worth knowing what decides durability.

The insert itself is built for it. A steel 40x30 mm profile with a 1.5 mm wall handles dynamic loads incomparably better than wood. With an insert, however, one more thing decides durability, and it is beyond our control: the support inside the bedstead. The frame has to rest on battens or angle brackets along the full length of the sides. If it rests on just a few points, every jump is concentrated exactly there.

The second thing is the mattress. With a thin mattress, the whole force of the jump strikes one or two slats at a single point — and those can snap. A mattress of the right thickness cushions the impact and distributes it across many slats at once. It is the same principle as walking on snow in boots versus on skis.
